Year 7 treble winners have perfect season
SALESIAN College achieved a unique football treble for the second time as Year 7 repeated the feat of their predecessors four years ago.
After winning the district league with a perfect seven wins from seven, Salesian College went into this week’s final in both the district and county cup with high hopes.
Last Wednesday they beat Calthorpe Park 2-1 with both goals from Adrian Oluwande. Rupert Berry was voted player of the match and Sebastien Norrie at centre back was immense.
On Friday evening at the EBB Stadium in Aldershot, the Year 7 boys took on Milton Cross in the county final – this saw the double winners of Aldershot & Farnborough versus the double winners of Portsmouth in the final Year 7 game of the season.
Oluwande gave Salesian the lead after just ten seconds before Milton
Cross hit back with two quick goals just after the break to take the lead.
Oluwande was at it again with a bullet finish from 16 yards into the top corner, his 58th goal in 18 College games this season, and then
William Plummer poked the ball in with 10 minutes remaining to give Salesian the lead. However, Milton Cross levelled in injury time with a fantastically taken goal to take the game to penalties.
Milton Cross missed their first penalty and Norrie, Berry, captain Alex Everard, Oluwande all scored, and with the tenth penalty of the shoot-out goalkeeper Hugo Shaw stepped up to score and spark wild celebrations.
This completed a league and cup season with 14 wins from 14 for Salesian College.
Gareth Cousins, head of PE at Salesian College, said: “What a game. Milton Cross were such great opponents, however the team spirit and togetherness developed over the season with the 13-man squad was shown again in the shoot-out win. To win the treble is such an amazing achievement for the boys.”
