Be in pole position with expert advice at indoor karting track

-

RACERS aspiring to be the next Lewis Hamilton will be interested to know that TeamSport, the UK’s number one destination for indoor karting, has a track in Farnborough.

TeamSport can help drivers with what to expect when going go-karting for the first time.

Some key tips to remember when driving include comfort.

Wear comfortable clothing that you can easily sit and stretch in, but nothing too fancy.

For drivers with long hair – tie it back and get it out of the way. You will need to be able to put a balaclava on underneath the helmet. Warm up a little. Go-karting is more physically demanding than you might expect, so try a bit of jogging on the spot and making sure your hands and wrists are flexed and ready to go.

Instructors can brief you on how to sit comfortably, drive the car, how to keep it smooth and race craft like maximising the straights and avoiding unnecessary collisions. Those interested can visit www.team-sport.co.uk/ go-karting-tips/go-karting-forbeginners/ for more information.

ANOTHER blistering century from Normandy’s in-form Olly Batchelor was the highlight of Saturday’s drawn game at Ashtead in the Surrey Championship Premier Division.

The hosts were denied a chance to bowl out the Normandy lower order by the arrival of rain 13 overs before the scheduled end of the game to provide a tame conclusion to what had been an exciting contest.

Ashtead were well aware of the visitors’ recent successful run chases and were in no mood to dangle the carrot of a generous declaration, making full use of an excellent batting pitch to amass a daunting 339-6, Surrey’s Ben Geddes making 46 at the top of the order before stand-in

Normandy captain Chris Jones had him caught at mid-wicket with the score at 93. With Ragu Aravinthan making 35 and Dan Geddes, 31, the home side were already handily placed at 155-3 when a stand of 113 between Conor Young (80) and South African Matt Breetzke (67) ensured they would post a substantial target – Jones (2-58) and seamer Rhodri Williams (2-80) the most successful of the Normandy bowlers on another tough day.

In reply Normandy were quickly on the back foot, Ben Sidwell making excellent use of the new ball by bowling Joel Foster and having Jones well caught at slip to leave the Normandy innings reeling at 11-2.

A week earlier Batchelor had smashed Weybridge for more than 200, and he seemed to be picking up where he left off as he raced to another incredible hundred, celebrating three figures with the total on just 119.

He found solid support from Liam McKendry (39) as the pair added 154 to put Normandy in the hunt, but when Batchelor fell for an excellent 131 off just 101 balls Ashtead sensed their chance at 199-5. It was Normandy who were more relieved to see the rain that was to bring an end to another high-scoring encounter, Ashtead taking the greater share of the points for the draw that leaves Normandy still firmly in mid-table.
