Annual sports awards are back to celebrate borough’s champions
SURREY Heath Borough Council is on the lookout for local people who have had a standout past year in sports or physical activity as it prepares for the return of the Surrey Heath Sports Awards.
According to the borough council, the awards celebrate local coaches, participants, volunteers, organisers and everybody in between who deserve to be recognised for their achievements.
Do you know an athlete who has excelled? A coach who goes above and beyond? Or maybe you attend a local group that is the highlight of your week. Whoever you want to recognise, Surrey Heath wants to hear from you.
People who are shortlisted for an award will be invited to the sports awards ceremony at Camberley Theatre on Monday October 17.
Nominations are now open for individuals or groups that make sport and physical activity happen in the borough for the following categories:
n Sporting Moment of the Year; n Community Project of the Year; n Volunteer of the Year; n Inclusive Sport Award; n Outstanding Service Award.
Surrey Heath’s portfolio holder for leisure, culture and community Cllr Rebecca Jennings Evans said: “The Surrey Heath Sports Awards aim to celebrate all the brilliant sports that are taking place across the borough.
“Physical exercise in any form is essential for our physical fitness and mental wellbeing, so I encourage everyone to get involved with a sport they enjoy and have fun.
“If you know of an individual, team, group or organisation who have gone above and beyond in sport in Surrey Heath, please do head to our website and nominate them – it’s quick and easy to do, and a great way to show your appreciation.”
