While a Savile Row tailor always dressed in sharp suits, they were usually working class men who were paid little and worked long hours – often up to 12 hours a day. In fact, its claimed when tailors first appeared on Savile Row, the resident surgeons were so appalled to be sharing a street with tradesmen they moved to Harley Street.
