Hexagonal pavilion
Hyangwonjeong Pavilion is one of the more modern buildings in terms of the date of its original construction, having been erected under the rule of King Gojong in 1873. It’s a two-storey structure that sits on a man-made island in the middle of a lake. The wooden bridge that originally connected the pavilion to the north shore was the longest bridge of its type in Korea at the time. Hyangwonjeong roughly translates as ‘Pavilion of Farreaching Fragrance’.
