BACCHANTE AND INFANT FAUN FREDERICK WILLIAM MACMONNIES

When: 1894 What: Statue Where: Boston, USA

-

A little unusual to have a statue blocked from public display, but that’s what happened when Macmonnies gave his original cast of Bacchante to his friend Charles Follen Mckim as he was building Boston’s new public library. Religious groups protested against it for its depiction of “drunken indecency”. Mckim then gave it to the Met Musuem in New York, where it remains.
