For me, price is a factor when buying peat-free
REPLYING to your news item (AG, 13 May), I switched from using peat-based multipurpose to a peat substitute last year. I’ve gained good success and make my own compost to boost nutrient levels in tubs. Being a pensioner, price is a factor so it’s a pity I don’t see special offers for peat-free as I do with compost containing peat. It’s the retailers that should be doing their bit to help protect peat bogs. I’ll be asking my local garden centre why it’s not promoted, as you suggested.
