Sedum splitting

-

Q When should I divide my lovely pink-flowered sedum? Ian Grose, Minchinhampton, Glocs

A Sedums are very easy to divide. The best time to lift your plant is spring, just as it is coming into growth. Lift the whole plant with a fork, taking care not to damage the roots more than necessary, or the fleshy leaves.

Shake as much soil from the roots as possible then pull the plant into pieces, each with a rootball the size of a large hand. Discard any woody growth from the centre of the plant.

Plant each piece to the same depth it was before and water in if the soil is dry.
