Stilts, Osea Leisure Park, Blackwater, Essex, England

These beach huts in Osea Leisure Park, on the Blackwater Estuary are a minimalist landscape photographer’s dream. They are finished in soft pastel colours and are perfect for a clean long exposure, especially on a misty morning. I photographed the huts on a cold January morning; there was a hint of mist, which helped to isolate the subjects. There was a slight breeze and a little bit of chop on the water so I decided to smooth this out with a 10-stop Neutral Density filter. Nikon D810 with Zeiss Distagon T* f/2.8 21mm ZF.2, 44secs at f/10, ISO 64
Judges’ tip use filters
Don’t be afraid to use filters. Buy a polariser and learn how to use it. Also, an ND Grad can help to keep the subtle tones in the sky.
