For and against

-

I bought an original X100 back in 2012, which along with subsequent Fujifilm mirrorless cameras replaced my Canon EOS DSLR system. By 2017 I found the original X100 was starting to show its age compared to modern cameras. After attending a Fujifilm Touch’n’Try Day in Liverpool with the ‘new’ X100F, an order was placed soon afterwards in readiness for a forthcoming trip to Rome.

With its updated sensor offering higher resolution, improved dynamic range, faster autofocus and the near silent leaf shutter, the X100F is an ideal companion as an everyday camera. Although capable of producing fantastic colour images, I have always been a fan of timeless monochromes, and here it excels either with the in-built ACROS film simulation or post processing conversion.

The X100F gets under your skin. It’s a pleasure to use, it feels solid in your hands and makes you want to pick it up and use it. Over the last three years, it’s my most used camera. The fixed lens has never been a restriction, in fact I find it forces you to think more carefully about composition, which in turn creates better photographs.
