Unexpected Thames guest

LAST week Dom Garnett shared his experiences of bankside ‘nutters’. Had he spent as many years as I did fishing the London canals, especially the Regents, he would realise he’s been lucky.

I’ve had several reports of sea trout from the tidal Thames this year, and I have no doubt some of them are just that. I’ve also heard of a few rainbows, and these are stockies. But when I had a call saying someone had not one, but two, salmon, I wondered.

Then the photos arrived... and they were rainbows.

The next text to arrive asked if I could identify a fish. Half expecting a ruffe posing as a zander, or a 1lb chub impersonating a record dace, I opened the image to find... a channel catfish. You never can tell!
