STURGEON SHOCKER FROM TRENT AND BURE
THE nation’s river systems are producing more surprises than ever before, with the capture of sturgeon from two of the UK’s most popular waterways.
Derek Hagley, from Essex, was shocked when a barbel session on the River Trent close to Fiskerton, Notts, produced this 14lb 2oz sturgeon, which took his 8mm halibut pellet hookbait.
There was a similar story for Richard Smith who hooked into a brace of the species while fishing the River Bure on the Broads.
A groundbait feeder and maggot attack helped him hook and lose a sturgeon a few hours into the session, with another fish being landed on the very next cast. For a detailed guide to fishing the incredible Broads system, turn to our Where To Fish Extra on pages 26 and 27
