I’m no fan of these hybrids

-

THOSE new ‘ghost F1s’ look like they originated abroad, and ghost carp were developed for koi ponds, not fisheries. Abroad is where all our carp diseases emanate from, and every fishery I know that stocks the current F1s has lost carp through disease.

Nigel Harrhy at Barston Lakes breeds his own fish from stock that could well be infected, as he had KHV soon after he stocked F1s. What if these malignant creatures escaped into our rivers?

We could find ourselves at a place where the only survivors would be the equivalent of the cockroach after a nuclear strike: horrible hybrids, their goldfish genes protecting them from the carp-centric (so far!) KHV.
