F1S & SILVERFISH
ALTHOUGH the Mick Wilkinson F1 Slim is a float made for F1 fishing, it’s actually far more versatile than that, and I use it for silverfish with casters and maggots.
It comes in three sizes – 8x11, 10x11 and 14x11.
Which I choose will dependon the depth of water I’m fishing, but as a guide I’ll use 14x11 for 5ft-6ft, 10x11 for 4ft-5ft and 8x11 for 3ft-4ft.
The float has a very slim body and a short tip and wire stem, both of which help it sit quickly. This is a big advantage when lifting and dropping all the time.
I fish it on a light mainline, in this case 0.13mm Guru N-Gauge. Hooklength is 4ins of 0.10mm fluorocarbon, while hook choice depends on the bait I’m fishing.
For F1s with maggots it will be a Guru F1 Maggot in an 18. Shotting pattern is a strung bulk of No11s with the bottom shot 4ins from the hook and the rest of the droppers spaced at 1ins intervals above this.
