How deep should I fish in the margins?
WHAT sort of depth should I be looking for when fishing the margins for big carp?

THE optimum summer depth for margin fishing is anywhere between 12ins and 18ins.
Any shallower and carp won’t feed confidently or comfortably, while deeper than 2ft you will struggle with having too much water to fish.
Line bites and foul-hooked are normally the end result.
Set your rig to 18ins and plumb up to find this depth – it doesn’t have to be close to any cover from reeds or bushes and it may be that this depth is a metre or so off the bank. It doesn’t matter – finding that depth is the most important part of margin fishing.
