47lb BOX COMMON COMPLETES ST JOHN’S ‘MOST WANTED’ TALLY
A personal best for Darren Knight
DARREN Knight nailed a hat-trick of St John’s most-wanted carp with the Box Common at 47lb.
The fish came from the same swim where he caught the Big Plated and the Big Common in the same trip last December.
Darren was fishing alongside his employee and England international Tom Maker, and the pair joked that another giant was on the cards.
“The peg I chose was the one where I had already had the Big Plated and Big Common from back in December,” said the 42-yearold, “and we both said ‘wouldn’t it be mad if I had one of the other big girls from the same peg?’
“Well, not three hours after that conversation I was shouting to wake Tom to come and net the Box Common for me!
“It beat my previous personalbest common by just 9oz.”
The Bristol angler, who also had a 23lb mirror during the 24-hour session, fished to a gravel spot amid dense weed at 55 yards.
“I baited with five Midi Spombs and lost a fish within an hour, so I decided not to top up as the fish were in the area,” said the floor fixer. “Within half-an-hour I had the Box on the mat.”
