On-site pub, seven lakes, tackle shop and giant barbel
GREAT sport, luxurious accommodation, superb food and top-notch facilities are all on tap at Westwood Lakes in the heart of the Lincolnshire Fens.
The new Mallard Lounge, a beautiful pub overlooking Skylark Lake, offers top beers, barista coffees and home-made cakes plus big-screen TV for the football as well as live music and quiz nights. It’s open to residents and the public alike.
For a snack on the go, check out the Fisherman’s Rest café for Westwood’s legendary all-day breakfast and homecooked meals at lunchtime and in the evenings. There’s also a Wednesday and Sunday carvery (from 12 noon until 2.30pm, booking essential) that packs them in from miles around!
Twenty-plus deluxe lodges are dotted around the site, each taking between two and six people, and some with hot tubs and pets allowed. Be sure to check availability on the fishery website before making any concrete plans.
If you simply fancy a day’s fishing, choose from seven lakes on site, all offering something different. There’s ample parking behind your peg on some lakes and you can even get bait plus bits and bobs from the wellstocked tackle shop on site.
Westwood is famed for its big barbel in Kestrel Lake but you’ll also find them in most of the other lakes, was well as massive ide, big bream, tench and huge carp. Kestrel, Swallow and Kingfisher Lakes are the general pleasure angler’s lakes where you never know what you’re going to hook next.
The main match lake is Skylark Lake, full of carp, F1s and barbel with 100lb match commonplace, but for a real a workout, get on to Falcon and Osprey Lakes, 13m side snake-style waters packed with small F1s where 300 fish in a session is the norm! Hawk Lake is another snake water where over a dozen species of fish are on offer.
