Stanwick Lakes
This day-ticket complex is famed for its giant carp
STANWICK Fisheries consists of six mature lakes, including two day-ticket specimen carp lakes where a 20lb plus fish is easily achievable. One of them, Elsons, consistently features in Angling Times with catches of carp to over 40lb.
The lake is around six acres, with depths from 6ft-9ft.
At the time of writing, there are at least seven known fish over 30lb, the biggest being just over 40lb, and many more over 20lb. A maximum of 12 anglers are allowed on at any one time so booking is necessary.
Mallard Lake also holds some monster fish as well as commons and mirrors in the 15lb-30lb category. For those looking to escape the crowds Roman Lake is a syndicate water, again with carp to over 50lb.
The fishery also boosts a few lakes where smaller carp and other species can be targeted. The 30-peg Swan Lake has a big head of low-double carp, and plenty of bream and tench.
Simple float tactics can account for good catches when targeting the beds of lily pads that can be found around the margins. The tiny Coot Lake, meanwhile, offers nets of mixed species from crucians to tench and bream, while Car Park Lake is ideal for those who want a 100lb bag of carp on the pole.
