Oaks Lakes
Visiting anglers will be spoilt for choice in North Yorks
VARIETY is the spice of life, and at The Oaks Lakes near Thirsk, anglers are offered a wide choice. Lakes range from arrowstraight snake-type waters to mature open-water pools.
Hugely popular with match anglers on the four match-only lakes (Cedar, Ash, Beech and Sycamore), pleasure anglers are well catered for too with the older, more established lakes towards the front of the site. Here you can pick from the Maple, Alders and Pines Lakes. These are canal waters suiting the pole angler fishing to the far bank for carp, F1s, big ide and a mix of silverfish.
If you prefer a bit more water to go at, the day-ticket lakes Willows, Oaks and Firs may be of interest, as these are your more classic pools suiting feeder and waggler work, while the margins will produce some big carp late in the day.
Don’t ignore the silverfish either, as 80lb nets of roach have been taken in winter silverfish matches – although you may get pestered by the carp while trying to catch them.
Facilities are impressive too, with plenty of parking, disabled access, a massive tackle shop and café plus – new for this year – a small adult-only caravan site for tourers with hard standing pitches and electric hook-ups.
