TRIPLE FIGURES OF CARP

ACORN CARP FISHERY, KINGSTON SEYMOUR

-

TOP matchman Angler Des Shipp is a regular visitor to this Somerset fishery, and with triple-figure nets commonplace it’s not hard to see why.

Two match-style waters and a specimen carp lake allow you to fish for both quantity and quality. The canal-style Top Match Lake is stocked with carp from 3lb-6lb but there is also a healthy stamp of silverfish. Try 4mm expander pellets and casters shallow and tight to the far bank. The 5m line is a good alternative if the fish fail to show elsewhere. The margins are prolific in the last hour.

The 40-peg Paddock Lake is the perfect beginner’s dayticket venue. Carp are the main target but there are lots of skimmers as well. Fish soft expanders on the pole, long to the far bank or down the middle in the deep water. Pegs 1 to 5 are good for 150lb of fish from this small channel.

The 3.5-acre Carp Lake is full of features to help draw a specimen to the net. With only 16 swims you can cast around and find the underwater bars and sunken islands. Nearly all the swims can reach an island, but pegs 11 and 10 seem to be the best, with the option of casting into 3ft to 4ft of water in a bay next to the central island. There are over 700 carp to 30lb present, and boilies, pellets and particles will all score well on the day.
