Switch to bread brings two big roach from Kent

A SWITCH from maggot to breadflake on the hook resulted in the bite Iain McDonald had been waiting for – from this 2lb 10oz roach.

The Kent angler was trotting his local stretch of river in a swim where he had spotted some big roach.

However, after being plagued by dozens of small perch he decided to mould a piece of the white stuff around his size 16 hook in the hope of hooking a bigger prize.

The tactic worked a treat, and he was soon netting a 1lb 10oz redfin which he then followed up with the even bigger specimen.
