THE summer holidays are here! What better excuse to take a day off work or spend an evening with the family chasing fish on your local river?

For many youngsters, there’s nothing more enjoyable than catching small fish on a whip. All you have to do is find a backwater off the main river – somewhere with a little flow is ideal – and use a simple pole rig with maggots.
