FOLLOW in the footsteps of John Wilson and fish one of the most prolific stretches of the Hampshire Avon.
The Severals and Avon Castle stretches of the river became famous when they featured in an episode of Go Fishing. Nowadays the stretch, which is controlled by Ringwood and District Anglers Association, is as good as ever, with stunning scenery and fishing to match.
The fishery, located just below Ringwood, has relatively fast-flowing water over a gravel bottom, with shallow and deep areas, making it ideal barbel country but there is also a big head of specimen chub to 7lb, bream, roach, dace and pike.
Membership to the club also gives access to other sections of this famous waterway, along with some stretches of the Dorset Stour.
