DON’T WORRY LOVE, I’LL PACK THE CAR...

-

THE holiday season is in full flow, and it comes with some great fishing opportunities... if you’re sneaky enough to grab them when you can.

Over the past few years I’ve become adept at packing the car to include all the ‘essential’ items my wife and teenage daughter ‘must’ take on holiday, along with a bit of fishing kit that’s so well hidden that even my wife – who has the spotting skills of a kestrel on the trail of a shrew – can’t pick it out in the luggage.

It doesn’t matter that you haven’t got your full-sized seatbox, 16m of pole, or a bivvy and three carp rods. Holiday fishing isn’t about that, it’s all about going back to basics and having fun doing it.

I recently had great few hours on a farmer’s lake with 4m of pole, a bait box containing a few rig bits, a folding landing net and two slices of Warburtons. It didn’t take long to get a load of small rudd feeding, and they put a huge smile on my face.

To inspire you, take a look at Martin Bowler’s holiday adventure and the Angling Times trip to Guernsey, and then pick your own fishing hotspot from our superb Where to Fish section.
