Hendre is a Welsh hotspot

-

IF YOU’RE looking for a carp runs water in South Waleswhere you can also bag up with silverfish, look no further than Hendre Lake.

The Cardiff day-ticket venue has recently been taken over by new owner Jason Massay, who wishes to offer visitors top class sport at a budget price.

The mature, picturesque fishery, which has depths to around 6ft and is around 12 acres, has been in fine form this season with anglers enjoying excellent carp sport from its huge head of commons and mirrors.

The fish average 12lb-18lb and can be caught from anywhere. The lake record is just over 30lb and fell this summer, and anglers have been catching as many as 15 fish in a session. The bottom is silty here so popping up your baits is advised. Floater fishing has also been productive.

The lake is also stuffed with rudd, roach, bream, tench and even ruffe, and these can all be caught simply by fishing a float with maggots. PRICES: £8 a day, £15 a night, concessions -half-price.
