With more than 100 pegs on a wide choice of coarse wa­ters, in­clud­ing the pur­pose-built canal, Broom is well worth a visit. Spec­i­men fish of all species can be caught at here, the main ones be­ing carp, F1 hy­brids, roach, perch, ide, chub, bream, tench and barbel. HALLCROFT FISH­ERY, RET­FORD, NOTTS

Pel­let and mag­got fished shal­low is catch­ing carp to dou­ble fig­ures on the Moat Pool. Feed some bait in the mar­gins and try here later on. The fish­ery’s fa­mous cat­fish are be­ing caught daily, with fish to 58lb show­ing from the Long Lake. The best baits for these are sub-sur­face-fished worm, meat, Cell boilies, pop-up squid boilies or Lakemore 22mm hal­ibuts. All should be fished in open water or down in the mar­gins at dusk. LINDHOLME LAKES AND COUN­TRY PARK, DON­CASTER, S YORKS

The 85-peg Bon­sai Lake is fish­ing its socks off, with an­glers tak­ing F1s av­er­ag­ing 2lb on caster and 4mm pel­let shal­low at 11m. RED­WOOD PARK, YORK, N YORKS

Big tench are feed­ing well on the Red­wood Lake and tak­ing corn and worm hook­baits quite read­ily. The lake is rich in reeds and lily pads and these are hotspots for the big­gest fish. There are also some good perch to 3lb which love dead red mag­gots and whole lob­worms fished on the float close in. Of­ten you’ll pick up the perch while tench fish­ing. RUFFORD MEAD­OWS FISH­ERY, RUFFORD, LAN­CASHIRE

WOOD­HOUSE GRANGE FISH­ERY, HAT­FIELD, S YORKS

Al­ter­nate be­tween the long and short pole on the Cob­ble Lake for carp to 5lb and bream to 4lb. Use a 4mm pel­let and feed soft­ened pel­lets of the same size af­ter ev­ery fish. You can also put to­gether a 20lb bag of ide by fish­ing caster shal­low with sloppy pel­let feed. Start off by fish­ing 3ft deep and keep the feed go­ing in via the cat­a­pult.
