48lb common comes after cameras leave

-

LEWIS Read’s incredible run of form at Wellington Country Park has continued with two thirties and a 48-pounder.

The pair of thirties, both commons weighing 32lb and 31lb 8oz, fell while the Gardner man filmed promotional videos at the Berkshire syndicate.

“After a full day of filming I reeled in to let Alan Stagg, the cameraman for the day, out,” said Lewis.

“As soon as I got back to the rods I put a fresh hookbait on each – I found the middle rod wasn’t sharp and immediately swapped it for a rig I had tied in front of the cameras.

“I got the hookbaits out there without too much fuss – I was annoyed that I had to do three chucks on the first rod! – and rebaited.”

The bite came just an hour later. “The power on the other end was bloody stupefying,” said Lewis, “locked up holding the line against the blank above the reel and it was still pulling – truly savage!”

After a “proper mega battle” Lewis slipped the net under the Small Tailed Common at 48lb 4oz.

Lewis fished Carp Company Caviar and Cranberry boilies snowman-style on a size 6 Gardner Dark Incizor hook and 20lb Tricklink.
