HOW refreshing was it to see the final of a big-money match where lots of fish were caught?

Fish O’Mania finals in recent years have been peggy affairs, with fairly modest catches winning the title, but the Maver Match This final at Hayfield Lakes certainly overturned that trend!

Winner Jon Whincup had 233lb and I noticed that the angler that came third-from-last out of the 24 finalists managed over 50lb.

This just goes to show that careful pegging, venue selection and stocking can lead to a great final that holds the interest of both competitors and spectators. Julian Newsome, Pontefract
