Why electro-fish?

I HAVE just read the article in Angling Times about getting more clubs on the canals but I think the Canal & River Trust is approaching it all wrong.

Canals close to my home used to interest lots of lure anglers targeting zander, pike, perch and chub. There was a healthy stock of silverfish and it was all going really well. Now that zander are removed by electro-fishing I struggle to catch a 4oz perch.

The Trust says it wants more anglers on our canals, but it isn’t listening to anglers on the bank. Anthony Wood, Nuneaton
