MOST carpers use hook­links of be­tween 8ins and 12ins.

Switch­ing to a shorter (4ins-5ins) or much longer hook­link (18ins) gives the carp a to­tally dif­fer­ent set of cir­cum­stances to deal with and can trans­form your catch rate. On grav­elly ar­eas go for shorter hook­links, and over silty or weedy ar­eas, go longer.
