ONE of the country’s most famous river stretches comes under the Angling Times spotlight this week.

The Royalty Fishery on the Hampshire Avon at Christchur­ch is steeped in angling history, renowned not only for the famous anglers who have graced its banks, but also for the quality of the sport it produces week in, week out throughout the season.

Recently the stretch has been in exceptiona­l form, with double-figure barbel showing from a number of swims. Early-season pike fans have also started to find some fish, with at least three 20-pounders taken since October 1. There are big roach and bream showing too.
