Matrix-backed rod and silvers expert Mark Pollard says… Tackle: “Use a 12ft soft-tipped feeder rod for the skimmers, so that you can cast fairly long distances if required. Use 4lb mainline to a 0.10mm or 0.12mm Matrix Power Micron hooklength and a size 16 or 18 Matrix SW Feeder hook.” Baits: “Pinkies, maggots, casters and worms all work as hookbait and are best used in cocktails. My favourite groundbait mix for the feeder is a blend of Dynamite Baits Frenzied Hemp, Roach and Brown Crumb. This is a dark blend that will score for both roach and skimmers.” Tactics: “Start by casting a distance that is comfortable for you – clip up and be prepared to push out slightly as the shoals back away. Don’t cast too often. You should wait around 15 minutes before you chuck the feeder out again. Keep pinging a few casters over the pole line, just in case the fish venture closer to the bank.”
