SNAKE LAKE

(100 PEGS)

-

This S-shaped snake lake is a match fishing haven for pole and feeder enthusiasts who want quick bites and big weights. There are 100 well-spaced pegs and each has a far-bank margin and a close-in 7ft track line to target, making competitions here as fair as possible for each angler. One recent match saw Ockendon Bait & Tackle angler Tony Smith produce 115lb 7oz of carp to 9lb by fishing pellet at 14.5m to the far bank. Fishery boss Steve Mould also had a tonne weight of 103lb 4oz from peg 23 by fishing pellet long to the far bank and short at 6m – so even though it’s cold, big weights are still being fetched out of this lake. It’s not all about catching carp here, however, because silverfish stocks of bream, tench, roach, rudd, chub and crucians are also plentiful. Fishing down the track with maggot or chopped worm over groundbait and on the deck never seems to fail in finding these fish – and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can put together 30lb without catching a single carp.
