IF YOU are new to using soft plastic lures, Berkley, Fox and Savage Gear all offer them pre-rigged with a jig hook and stinger already fitted.
These are a great place to start, but soon you are likely to want to rig your own with different weights of jig head and perhaps different hook positions. It can also work out cheaper to rig your own.
ATTACH the stinger hook. The back is best in weedy waters but the belly will give more hook-ups.
USE a split ring to hold the loop on the end of the stinger in place and you are ready to go!
FOR a 5ins bait a 5/0 jig hook reaches the right position, for a 6ins lure a 6/0, and so on.
PUSH the hook into the centre of the nose of the bait – straight, or else it won’t swim true.
FEED the lure on to the hook until the point emerges through the nick you have already made .
LINING up the jig hook alongside the lure, make a small nick in the plastic where the hook will exit.
