ROVING RIVER RIG
AUTUMN means chub, and there’s nothing more pleasant than spending a morning roving around on a small river in search of these obliging fish.
A typical narrow river will have lots of likely-looking spots to cast a bait into. Overhanging trees, bushes and rafts of debris are hotspots and travelling light is key, arming yourself with just a light leger rod, a bag of tackle items, a landing net and, of course, some bait.
It’s just as simple when it comes to rigs, with a light bomb or link leger fished on a running rig working well. Bites are savage, and by carefully rotating hookbaits you’ll soon hit upon what’s right for the day and fill your boots!
