DEEP WATER OR SHALLOW?
Swims between 8ft and 12ft deep are best once the water temperature is down to low single figures. Avoid swims which aren’t moving, though, unless the river is very coloured – in which case they might be a good option. If the colour is good and you can see your loosefeed between 6ins and a foot into it, go for swims which are moving steadily and approach them with bulk-shotted rigs in the form of Bolos or Avons.
