If mov­ing baits aren’t work­ing, which can sometimes hap­pen when the wa­ter tem­per­a­ture drops down very low, try a static bait pre­sented with a feeder out in the river, a small bomb, or a link leger made up with shots close in. A 6ins pa­ter­nos­ter and a 3ft-4ft tail can of­ten bring bites af­ter a fruit­less few hours on the float when it’s re­ally cold.
