T’S been a long time coming, but in our area it does feel as if winter might be on its way. For some anglers, myself included, that’s great news as it means only one thing – massive perch!

There isn’t a stillwater, canal or stretch of river in the country which doesn’t hold big fish and we’re really reaping the rewards of a strong generation of predators right now.

And the bigger they get, the smarter they become too. Given their predatory nature, I’ve never found tracking down big perch to be all that difficult...but catching them is a different matter altogether!

You’ve got to get your tactics spot on if you want a specimen.

To help us all out we’ve enlisted the assistance of our experts this week, with advice on the best rigs, baits, lures and tactics for a big stripey, while our front cover star Martin Bowler tells the story of a fantastic big perch adventure. It all starts on page 32.

ITalking of stories, I love reading Dom Garnett’s Far Bank column every week and if you do too then we’ve got a great offer for you to take advantage of, just in time for Christmas. Readers who subscribe to Angling Times in the next few weeks will get their hands on a copy of Dom’s brilliant Crooked Lines book – one of the funniest fishing books I’ve ever read – see page 63 for more details. Tight lines for the week ahead.
