ANGLING TRUST EAST MIDLANDS WINTER LEAGUE (SUN)

-

This tiny river hit prime winter form for the latest round with an average of 21lb per man and a massive 38-5-0 winner for Mark Pollard. He drew the culvert peg at Wigston’s Bridge, which won the practice match the day before, and took more than 400 roach and small hybrids on breadpunch fished at 3m to hand. That left Andy Mead in second from his peg in the town centre, where bread also gave him 24-9-0 of roach. Stanjay Gold won the match with 24 points and are now top of the league on section countback as they sit on 11 points alongside Sensas Mark One White.

Switching between waggler and stick float with maggot from peg 85, Dan Wooding picked off chub to 3lb to win with 26-11-0. Second went to Paul King with 19-13-0 from shallow peg 93, where he found barbel, including a 12lb 3oz specimen, on feeder and maggot tactics.

The river was still up and coloured, although dropping, and barbel figured strongly. River star Jez Williams won himself plenty of festive cheer when he weighed in 12-5-0 to win off peg 148. Feeder and maggot gave him roach, chub and a couple of barbel. Second man past the post was James Checkitts with a pair of barbel going 12-2-0 at the scales off peg 144, where he, too, fished feeder and maggot.
