WHO’S UP FOR THE DRENNAN?
THIS week we celebrate one of the best seasons for big-fish captures in the history of our sport as voting opens to decide the winner of the most prestigious trophy in specimen angling – the Drennan Cup. In just a few weeks’ time we’ll reveal who will be crowned champion of the UK’s premier big fish competition. The winner will not only lift the coveted trophy, but also scoop the £2,000 first prize. The 2016/17 season produced unprecedented numbers of specimen fish from rivers, stillwaters and canals, and the experienced panel of judges at Drennan handed out no fewer than 133 weekly awards to a diverse mix of anglers. These comprised a raft of former winners and household names. And, as always, it is the Drennan Weekly Award Winners themselves who will be responsible for deciding the top four places in the competition, with anybody who has received an award over the past five years being eligble to vote.
Catches are judged on merit as well as size and, although those anglers on multiple awards will be in the thick of things, sometimes one stand-out fish can capture the imagination of voters.
So sit back and enjoy five pages of the best big-fish catches from the past 12 months. Who would get your vote?
