Bag a Ferry Meadows bream bag

FERRY MEADOWS, PETERBOROUGH, CAMBRIDGESHIRE

-

THOSE among you who have heard of Ferry Meadows lakes will be aware of their fantastic bream potential, and recent match weights prove that it’s still one of the best stillwater bream venues in the country.

You’ve already read on pages 4 and 5 how the bream fishing season has got off to a flyer, and if you want to start your own campaign in style, head to this stunning two-lake venue.

Steel City and Peterborough DAA open matches are regularly held across Overton and Gunwade Lakes, and triple-figure nets are already being taken in the mild conditions. The Monument bank on Gunwade and Thomas Cook bank on Overton have been the areas to head to of late, with long-range feeder tactics producing bream to 8lb and the odd tench to 5lb.

Clip up at 35 yards and feed around 10 feederfuls of groundbait, micro pellets, chopped worm, caster and dead maggots before you start fishing. On the hook alternate between triple red maggot, chopped worm and corn to bring bites throughout the day. If your swim dries up it’s worth feeding between five and 10 more feeders of bait to kick the swim back in to life, or casting 10 yards further in case the fish have backed off. PRICES: £5 a day on the bank,

reduced membership prices for Ferry Meadows and Thorpe Meadows Basin – £15 adults, £10 senior citizens, juniors FREE, £30 parking permit for Ferry Meadows if you have a club book (ask at Visitor Centre)
