Angling Times’ Mark Peck TACKLE “A soft-actioned rod around 12ft long, to cope with the deep water, is ideal for casting 15m-plus to the side of the island. It was windy and I fished a 4AAA oversized waggler but under normal conditions you can go lighter.” BAIT “Red maggots are preferred by the chub and perch, and can be spotted easily by fish in the lightly coloured water. Keep the feed going in. It’s also worth having 6mm pellets and worms as a change of feed and hookbait.” TACTICS “Plumb up to find the deep holes around the island then feed 10 maggots each cast. It’s also worth casting a small maggot feeder into the same swim to catch the bigger fish on the bottom.”
