FANCY A SILVERS CATCH OVER 50lb?

WITH most commercials reporting bumper nets of carp it’s no surprise to hear that near-50lb nets of silverfish are showing from Lawn Farm Fishery.

The spring silverfish matches have just finished here but have proved that silvers provide a superb alternative to the usual carp on commercial fisheries.

The venue’s four waters are all fishing well for silvers but it’s the 38-peg Willow Pool that’s been stealing the show. A 48lb 5oz bag of skimmers, chub and roach came from peg 28 to one angler who fished casters short and on the deck at 5m and pellet long at 11m – while others have enjoyed success fishing shallow with maggots close in.

Carl Tamayo had 39lb 7oz of mainly chub to 3lb by fishing maggot shallow on his 5m line feeding maggots by hand. There are also some big skimmers and barbel in here. as Dan Halldiscovered during another silverfish match with a winning 65lb 11oz bag. He fished mainly the pole with

worm at 5m to take skimmers to 3lb and a bonus 9lb barbel – so not all the big fish here are necessarily carp!
