OUR PICK OF THE WEEK

-

CROSS DROVE FISHERY (SUN) Hockwold (29 pegs)

Bruno Norman included a variety of species in his winning catch that totalled 97-14-0.

The Kev’s Tackle man was on peg 68 from where he worked with pellet close to any cover in his peg.

There he found a mixture of F1s, brown goldfish, skimmers and bonus carp.

Craig Nicholas was second with 78-0-0 from peg 13.

GOLDEN REEL ANGLING CHAMPS (SUN) Larford Lakes (88 pegs)

Paul Cook will now have a shot at a minimum cash prize of £50,000 after he won this prestigious qualifier with 200-3-0. The Frenzee-backed angler put in a stunning performance from peg 17 on Arena Pool.

He started with pellet shallow on the long pole, before coming down the margins with meat and corn to find plenty of lumps late in the day.

Dave Haywood had a fantastic day, but was never really in contention of spoiling the party. He finished on 156-9-0 from peg 21 on the same lake.

LEEGEM LEAGUE (RND 5) (SUN) Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery, Moat Pool (60 pegs)

Only one man broke the triplefigure barrier and it was Wayne Lomas who took that accolade.

The Leegem-backed man drew peg 2 on the island and used banded pellet on the short pole and corn down the edge for 17 carp to double figures and a 113-7-0 catch.

Matt Malia fished the waggler shallow from peg 21 on the outer bank and took second with 99-7-0.

MEADOWLANDS FISHERY SPRING LEAGUE (SUN) Warren & Lambsdown Lakes (42 pegs)

The fine form of these lakes continued, with Neil Russell taking a phenomenal 193-0-0 winner. Drawn on peg E on Lambsdown Lake, he used the Method feeder with pellet to start with before finding some huge carp down the edge later using maggot. Stu Pulsar was top weight on Warren Lake, bagging 124-5-0 from peg 23 for second overall.

NISA FEEDERS OPEN (THURS) Guru Makins Fishery, Thames & Derwent Pools (26 pegs)

There was never ever any doubt here, as Pete Caton stormed to victory with 100-10-0. Pellet shallow at 14.5m from peg 12 on Thames Pool helped the Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths man pick off carp to 7lb throughout the contest. Dave Hipkiss, second, had 69-2-0 from peg 22 on Derwent Pool.

PACKINGTON SOMERS (SUN) Molands Pool (33 pegs)

An end peg will always give you a great chance of winning, as Steve Lovell proved with 72-12-0. Drawn on peg 60, the local lad fished pole and pellet shallow at 14.5m and caught F1s to 3lb and the odd bonus carp. Ron Savage was second this time around with 70-2-0.

PRESTON INNOVATIONS BOLDINGS POOLS Sycamore & Willow Pools (32 pegs)

Andy Williams didn’t need many sections of pole to win this one with 148-14-0. Drawn on peg 9 of Willow Pool, the Vespe-backed angler used maggot and corn down both margins and took carp to 7lb and barbel to 5lb at regular intervals. Bob Baker started at 6m from peg 33 on Sycamore Pool, but a late run down the edge bumped his weight up to 137-4-0.

ROOKERY WATERS (SAT) Magpie Lake (28 pegs)

A good turnout meant pegging was tight, but that didn’t stop Sean Butler bagging up with 123-14-0. The Tackle & Bates-backed angler fished tight to the reeds of peg 31 and managed to put together 52 carp, with the best of them weighing around 8lb. Just 6oz behind was Simon Godfrey with 123-6-0 from peg 22.

SHERWOOD FOREST FISHERY (SUN) Holmedale Lake (31 pegs)

Fancied peg 31 stuck to Danny Higgins’s hand at the draw and he made no mistake from it with 155-11-0. Using pellet shallow in the open water, the Woodhouse Angling Centre rod caught over 40 carp to 6lb. Over on peg 20 on the shallow bay, Lee Plackett used pellet in the margins for fish to 8lb and a 100-12-0 total.

STARLETS PACKINGTON SOMERS VETS (TUES) Geary’s Level, Annies, Grats & Willow Pools (59 pegs)

It was extremely tight at the top and Dave Smith just about took the win with 52-9-0. There were four anglers in with a genuine shout at the final whistle and the local angler just about took home the fattest brown envelope on offer after he used the pellet feeder for carp and F1s from peg 3 on Willow Pool. One more fish could have won it for Pat Clark, who settled for second with 49-13-0 from peg 15 on Annies.
