Huge roach brace falls at carp water

Carper’s boilies snare giant redfins weighing 3lb 14oz and 2lb 10oz

ACARP angler became the envy of roach fans across the UK when his boilies were taken by huge redfins weighing 3lb 14oz and 2lb 10oz.

Andy Morley proved why many anglers target specimen carp fisheries for other species when he smashed his roach personal best twice during a session on a 120-acre venue in the Cotswolds.

The Berkshire specialist was fishing a bright pink wafter hookbait in conjunction with a solid PVA bag when the heavier of the two fish was the first to fall.

“So many anglers have beaten their personal bests for other species while carp fishing,” he told Angling Times.

“My previous pb was 1lb 8oz from the same venue, but this roach was something else. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“What really took me aback was their condition. I’m sure neither had ever seen a hook before.

“I’ve had perch to almost 4lb and huge tench from waters in the Cotswolds.

“After this, I’m going to target the roach specifically.

“There must be so many other carp venues in the UK that contain huge fish like this.”

Both Andy’s fish came from an area 120 yards from the bank and were tricked into taking his hookbait with the help of a PVA bag filled with mixed pellets.

Many anglers and fishery owners believe that it’s venues such as this that boast record-breaking potential for species such as roach, perch and tench.

One man who shares this opinion

and has seen more specimen roach than many anglers can only dream of is leading fisheries consultant and passionate species enthusiast Andrew Ellis.

“This catch hasn’t come as a surprise. I’ve netted so many carp fisheries and unearthed some really special roach,” said the owner of AE Fisheries.

“Coarse species in this type of fishery really do thrive because the stocking densities of quality carp waters are lower and fish like roach and perch fill the gaps.

“Venues like this have the potential to produce roach of really massive proportions, and this is something that anglers looking to catch a personal best should be aware of,” he added.
