ANGLING is celebrating another victory this week after it was confirmed that the latest series of The Big Fish Off was its most successful ever.

Angling Times can this week reveal that the latest five-episode series, hosted by Ali Hamidi and Dean Macey, was one of the most popular on ITV4.

Viewing figures have confirmed that each show, boasting bigname celebrities, action-packed angling and banter from start to finish, enjoyed audiences of approximately 500,000 per episode – including repeats – and these are the best yet.

The continued and increasing success of The Big Fish Off has delighted ITV bosses, and filming for the fourth series starts this week.

“This show gets better and better. It’s just great for our sport and we are all very proud of what The Big Fish Off has achieved,” Ali told Angling Times.

“The third episode, which featured Carl Fogarty and Kell Brook, was the second-most viewed programme outside live sport and films on ITV4. That’s one hell of an achievement.

“As usual there were negative comments about us and the show, but it’s these people that are the ones that hold angling back. This show is what the sport needs to show non-anglers that fishing can be cool and fun, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

“Our guests have been nothing short of amazing. They have helped us achieve our objectives in creating a fishing show that can entertain existing anglers as well as create new ones.

“We will continue to bring fishing to a whole new audience and we can’t wait to get started on series 4… it’s going to be knockout!”

Ali also revealed that three of the celebrities already signed up to star in the next series are former

Olympic athlete Linford Christie, champion heavyweight boxer Tony Bellew and Scottish actor James Cosmo.

The other celebrities and the destinations are yet to be announced. “Every guest we’ve had on The Big Fish Off has brought something different to the table and have really made a winning mix for funny and entertaining TV,” Ali continued.

“The quality of our guests and the plans we have for series 4 are going to be something else. We have had so many great reviews

from some really respected media outlets and sports writers and we wouldn’t have been able to achieve that without the support we get from the viewers.

“I thank everyone on behalf of myself, Dean and all the people that help make The Big Fish Off. It’s the incredible viewing figures that enable us to keep making this show and demonstrate to people what a great sport fishing is.”

The hi ghly anticipated second series of the hit show Monster Carp will be hitting TV screens this July, also on ITV4.
