MALLARD MADNESS AS BANK HOLIDAY TRIO BAG 61 BIG CARP

Pick of the bunch a 39lb common

BANK-holiday sessions on popular day-ticket waters are normally associated with crowds of anglers rather than hauls of fish – but one trio at Bluebell Lakes made it look easy.

With help from 10-year-old son George and mate Chris Pemberton, Nigel Ramsbottom racked up an incredible 61 carp from Mallard Lake at the Northamptonshire complex.

Three weighed over 30lb, including a 39lb common, while 17 more went over 20lb. A total of 41 doubles made up the rest of the impressive tally.

Nigel, from Heywood in Greater Manchester, told Carpfeed: “I arrived at the lake at 4pm. After an hour of watching thewater it was clear that the fish were at one corner, which was not where I wanted as we had planned a social and had a few pegs in mind.

“But after setting up and putting in 15 Spombs of particles and corn I had a 27lb common within two hours – game on!

“After having six more twenties and four doubles in the first 24 hours I was into another. After a 15-minute battle a 39lb common hits the net. It was a recapture, but still welcome!”

Nigel continued to bait up with five Spombs of bait after every fish and they kept coming before his two helpers arrived.

“At Friday teatime back-up arrived – my son and Chris making take times a lot easier! With me casting and my son bringing them in the fun began and we had 61 carp between us.”

Nigel fished at 29 wraps (116 yards) in front of a weed bed and fed particles and chopped boilies as freebies.

He presented test pop-ups from Burton Bait Rollers topped with fake corn on Ronnie rigs.
