Helicopter rig is nothing new
IT MUST be 10 years ago or more that Nigel Botherway showed me the rig he used to catch huge roach from Linch Hill.
It was simplicity itself, just a short 10cm hooklength on a swivel trapped between two float stops a couple of inches above a blockend feeder.
It’s now known, of course, as the helicopter rig and responsible for the downfall of Phil Spinks’ and Ken Fuller’s huge roach.
The rig is virtually self-hooking, completely safe when tied correctly and 100 per cent guaranteed tangle-proof.
Not only is it the ultimate roach rig for some (I prefer a float) but it is brilliant for virtually all cyprinid species and perfect for fishing the feeder in any situation.
In fact the very first Method style was a helicopter rig of sorts.
