FIRST JOB – FEED OFF THE SWANS!

Cunning plan for 57lb 4oz mirror

-

ACANNY use of five loaves of bread helped Jamie Peacock bag this 57lb 4oz mirror.

The Peterborough angler’s spot at Deepings No1 was so shallow it was in danger of being wrecked by swans – so he brought out the Hovis to feed them off.

Jamie, who had a successful 2016 on the Lincolnshire syndicate with fish of 53lb 4oz and 48lb 12oz, told carp feed. com: “The swim I moved into has access to a big bar and for the first time this spring I saw fish on it.”

He added: “The bar is around 3ft-4ft deep and the swans can sometimes pick up your baits, so I had five loaves of bread with me to keep feeding them and keep them away from my spots.”

After originally fishing with single hook baits, an upper double common helped cement Jamie’s confidence and he added boilies and particles to the spot while the swans were preoccupied.

“Just before dark I was watching fish cruising along the bar so I thought I was in with a shout for another fish,” he said.

“At 1am the middle rod on the bar melted off and straight away I knew I was into a good fish.

“After about 10 minutes it was in the net and it was massive.

“I have put a fair bit of time in since the beginning of April, booking time off work to fish four nights a week to hopefully catch it, and I still can’t believe it now!”
