Angling Trust call on Government to act

Here’s what Angling Trust wants from our election hopefuls

- BEN MILES News editor

THE most influential organisation in the sport has revealed what it would like the next Government to do to protect and improve fishing in the UK.

Angling Trust chiefs have unveiled the organisation’s 2017 Manifesto for Angling, challenging `politicians and political parties seeking election on June 8 to demonstrate their support for recreational fishing.

Trust members and supporters are being encouraged to contact their local candidates with a copy of the manifesto and secure commitments to protect fisheries and anglers’ rights in the next Parliament.

“Angling and the environment are too often ignored in decisions by governments and their agencies.

“This has led to a decline in participation and fish stocks,” said Angling Trust Chief Executive Mark Lloyd.

“We are therefore calling on the new government, of whatever political persuasion, to get a grip on the challenges facing our sport and the environment, and pledge to deliver real improvements to the lives of millions of people in this country who love fishing.

“Most of the actions we are seeking would have significant benefits for local communities and society in general,” added Mark.
